Let us introduce you to one of Star Rock Ministries newest partners who treasured the gift of camp this past summer. Scott and Jenny Chan have served as CRU field staff in the LA/OC Metro High School since 2018. Their team is made up of 16 members that minister to 12 high schools, spread over Los Angeles and OC. They have had the opportunity to serve alongside high school students, hosting regular gatherings on campus and outreach opportunities in the community. In addition to on-campus meetings, Scott and Jenny host weekly bible studies off campus, work hard to raise up student leaders, connect regularly with students, and coach gymnastics at Lakewood High School. Amazing!!
In Jenny's words, "The gift of camp this past summer at Star Rock's XLR8 2 at Bass Lake was a priceless gift to their urban youth." Students realized they were stronger than they thought and that community is key to love, growth, and healing. From family meals, thoughtful schedules, outdoor activities, personalized care, and the relational investment from the staff, and other urban networks each teen experienced wholehearted love. Scott and Jenny went on to say, "many students at CRU experience frequent hardship at home including homeless, domestic abuse, and food insecurity. Camp gave them a space that could ease their mind a bit and enjoy being a carefree kid. It really was Camp Magic! Unplugged and undistracted, they were able to grow and even begin healing."
As you reflect on this significant season, we invite you to consider year-end gift (your heart) to SRM. Your investment (treasures) will provide lasting opportunities for at-risk children to experience unplugged attentiveness, play, healing, and the true Magic of Camp!
