The Stories We Tell: One weekend that echoes hope all year long.

Each May, Star Rock Ministries paves the way for 130 kids from the orphanages and tough areas of Tijuana, to attend Camp Agua Viva (or Living Water). For many it’s the first time in their lives they’ve been able to run around among trees and wildlife. That combined with all the camp games and activities make it the highlight of the year for so many!

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

During a recent visit with one of our ministry partners, we were reminded that sometimes the most powerful moments come quietly, almost unexpectedly.

Our partner, Spectrum Ministries, serves children in Tijuana growing up in a neighborhood with real and ongoing challenges. Life can feel uncertain and heavy, even at a young age. 53% of the children live in total poverty in communities with high rates of homicide, drug dealing, human trafficking, food scarcity, and domestic violence. Star Rock Ministries paves the way for children from these neighborhoods to spend a weekend at camp.

For many of these kids, one weekend at camp is often “the best weekend of their lives.” It’s a rare chance to step away from stress and responsibility and simply be a child. A place to play freely, to feel safe, to be deeply known, and to hear, sometimes for the first time, that God loves them and is always near.

One favorite? The Star Rock sponsored fruit stand. Kids light up when they see it - fresh fruit, friendly faces, and the reminder that they are cared for not just spiritually, but holistically. Body, heart, and soul.

At camp, one story caught our hearts.

One young girl, small for her age, observant, liked to stay close to the adults she trusted. One evening, as things settled down and the cabin grew quiet, she approached her counselor with a simple request:

“Will you read the Bible to me?”

Not because it was part of the schedule.

Not because she was told to.

But because she wanted to hear God’s Word spoken over her.

So they sat together, just the two of them, and the counselor began to read. Verse by verse. Story by story. In that moment, the noise of the world faded, and she listened intently, soaking in words of truth, love, and hope. For her, this was more than a bedtime routine, it was comfort, safety, and belonging wrapped in Scripture.

Moments like this are why camp matters so much.

Star Rock Ministries is proud to partner with Spectrum Ministries because they create year long places of consistency, care, and Christ-centered love alongside their camp outreach. Star Rock's support gives these under-resourced kids a weekend to be a play and learn about God's great love for them. Your partnership helps make space for a little girl to hear the Bible read aloud, to feel peace, and to know she is loved by God.

Thank you for being part of these stories of light.
